Yogyakarta’s 16th annual advertising festival, Pinasthika, is about to get underway. For this year, the event will be held at Taman Budaya Yogyakarta and will feature workshops, seminars, meet ups, and exhibitions, with an awarding night for the best creative work.

While a number of workshops have been held today, the official kick off is tomorrow and the event will last until closing night on Sunday.

Among the nine speakers at the event are state officials Triawan Munaf as head of creative economy agency and Bandung mayor Ridwan Kamil, industry figures Edi Taslim from Kompas Gramedia, Hakuhodo’s Lucy Novita and Woon Siew Hoh, and writer, story teller and head chief of Petrichor Digital Alexander Thian.

The two day creative workshop that run from today to tomorrow at the Greenhost Hotel Prawirotaman is being led by senior strategic planner Djito Kasilo, featuring Rangga Sastrowardoyo, Hari Prast, Sandru Emil, Patty Wiroreno, Yazied Syafaat, and Bondan Eko.

In the months leading to the event, the organizers held a number of Twitter talks on the @pinasthikafest account with local content creators such as Deddy Avianto (@idberry), Putu Aditya Nugraha (@commaditya), Wicaksono (@ndorokakung), and Poetry Gladys (@dapurgladys) to highlight the importance of story telling, context, timing, and creativity in making sharable and meaningful content. Talks were in Indonesian and can be found with the hashtag #pinasthitalk

Pinasthika Creativestival began in 2000 as Pinasthika Widyawara, an event which recognizes the creativity of advertisements placed on the Kedaulatan Rakyat daily newspaper. Three years later, it expanded to recognize other media placements but restricts participants to only local agencies and creators. Citra Pariwara on the other hand, accepts advertising work from any company or individual belonging to the Indonesian Association of Advertising Companies (PPPI), be they foreign companies or local.
